Original Costs

You guys know I collect Wear-Ever pots/pans, so I thought I would share something I got out of one of the 1920's/1930's salesmen newsletters I have for Wear-Ever. All of Wear-Ever used to be sold via salesman only (no store sales). Here's one recommended pitch they could use:

If you buy an "ordinary" pan for 30 cents each, you will need to replace it every year. In 10 years time, you will have spent $3.00 on pots!! Or, you could buy one Wear-Ever pan for 50 cents, and it will last 10 years. So by buying Wear-Ever, you will have actually saved yourself $2.50 !!

Ahh, those were the days!! Don'cha wish prices were still there (but our income where it is now, of course!!)

Hi Tura, What is the story on the Wear Ever ????? You just love it ? Does it cook wonderfully ? And what about all that aluminum...aren't we supposed to avoid cooking with aluminum ? Or, is Wear Ever stainless ???

ps I wonder why they say an increase amounting to "only" 42%. Sounds like a big increase to me.

During WWII there were price controls. These were necessary to help damp inflation because basically the war was financed by printing paper money. Other measures like rationing, War Bonds, and Income Tax witholding were also used to sop up the excess money. After WWII the pent up inflation adjusted, hence only 42% price increase for the Chambers model B.

Since my salesman's flip chart is once again and still at the printer, I will check that part when I get it back (next week with fingers crossed) and see if there is anything else to make that make more sense.
